This poem was featured in ArtFest 2018, a student-led gallery in Bremen. As luck would have it, it also earned a solo photograph upon the events Facebook page! It’s a short piece, reminiscing about what I felt was a missed romantic opportunity at the time. In truth, the poem far exceeds the story behind it in both intrigue and creativity. It was a simple matter of thinking chemistry existed where it did not. No drama, no hard feelings. But still, enough to fuel an idea!
While the meter is unusual, it follows a simple descending spiral, which I found was a rather fun trick to experiment with. It results in some unusually short lines leading into standard and slightly longer verses. If that sounds at all interesting to you as a creative, give it a try. I am sure you’ll surprise yourself! Below is a photo graciously shared by the event organizers of the poem being displayed.
Searching through the invisible walls
Scattered in void while being apart
Thinking back I see ivory halls
Reminisce of a less empty heart
What lies, unseen yet heard
Makes flame unreachable
Like song from muted bird
Always immutable
What lay, unheard but seen
Remains
That we are
and could be
In a star
try to see
The astral corpse of once brooding potential love
Saved, in dreams, by one ever better
Mirror warps peace above
Dark Matter
